Legislation and Public Policy

About Public PolicyRICDHH has been a leader in public policy and advocacy for deaf and hard of hearing individuals for over 25 years.

Collaborating with stakeholder groups to address public problems, such as lack of access, justice, and awareness is what RICDHH attempts to do through its lobbying efforts. This, in tandem with other policy responses, fulfills the charge of the Commission as originally mandated by the legislature over 25 years ago.

The House of Representatives Welcomed Steven Florio Back

Representative Arthur Handy (D-Providence) and House of Representatives Speaker Nicholas Mattiello (D-Cranston) welcomed Steve Florio back to the office after 10 months of extended medical leave. Rep. Handy expressed his appreciation to Steve’s 15 years of dedicated service for the State with RICDHH.  “I’m excited having him (Steve) back helping us to do the right things around the Deaf and Hard of Hearing issues.” Thank you.

“In collaboration with Rep. Handy, you really advocate for folks that need to be advocated for, for folks that are disabled, deaf and hard of hearing. Your work is so appreciated. You make the lives of deaf and hard of hearing Rhode Islanders better. That certainly gets all our attention.  That’s what we’re here for and you are assisting us.” Thank you.
